K-5 Elementary Transition

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, all four Eastpointe Community Schools elementary schools will serve students in kindergarten through 5th grade. This change comes from feedback from our families about the challenges of having young children split across different schools.

With this shift, families with multiple elementary-aged children may have them all at the same school for the first time, making transportation easier and creating stronger neighborhood connections. Over the coming months, we’ll share updates on school assignments, transportation, and opportunities to connect with school staff.

The majority of students will remain at their current school, return to the school where they attended grades K-2, or shift to the school where they expected to attend grades 3-5.

Student Q&A

New Attendance Zone Boundaries

New attendance zones were created in an attempt to create equitable school sizes while also balancing transportation and safety needs, based on current enrollment data, as well as relevant census data. These boundaries were drawn in an effort to avoid overcrowding and offer smaller class sizes and equitable resources to all K-5 students in ECS.

In-District Transfer Process

Resident families who would prefer to attend a school other than the one to which they are assigned can complete the In-District Placement form to request another placement. These forms must be returned to your child's school or the Administration Center by 4pm Monday, March 17 for priority consideration.

Families who choose to attend a school through In-District Transfer will not be eligible for bus transportation and are responsible for getting their child to and from school on time each day.

We will make our best effort to honor all in-district transfer requests, however, a request for an in-district placement is not a guarantee. Placements will be made based on space available.

Non-Resident Students

Current non-resident Schools of Choice families are guaranteed placement in an Eastpointe Community Schools elementary school and should complete the Schools of Choice Placement Request form to rank their school choices. This form must be returned to your child's school or the Administration Center by 4pm Monday, March 17 for priority consideration. Placements will be made based on space available.
